The state of New York was locked down tight during the COVID panic. Those that could, got out of the state fast.
Rich, elite liberals fled the state to less restricted zones. (Possibly speeding up the disease to the South.)
Now, the governor is begging them to come back, despite some restrictions in place. He’s seeing the tax revenue dry up rapidly.
AOC has another idea:
Democrat Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez calls for a billionaire’s tax for struggling New York while Gov. Andrew Cuomo fears billionaires won’t return.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez appears to be driving rich New Yorkers away by calling for a new tax on billionaires.
Like the good socialist she is, she wants to punish the rich for being successful. It comes at the worst time.
Democrat billionaires are fleeing the state, thanks to COVID fears and disastrous leadership.
The state had been locked down for months. It is still struggling to recover. The return of some wealthy might jumpstart the region.
That’s what Cuomo is praying for.
But, as if on cue, AOC is essentially telling billionaires, “If you come back, I’m taking your money.”
AOC has followed Bernie Sanders’ lead to attack the rich and demand their money. That does not appear to be the winning strategy to help NY get back on track.
Wealthy families don’t need to return. They can stay in places like Florida and Texas, that aren’t locked down and have lower taxes.
The governor is up against a wall, though. Unless the state fully reopens, and there is no talk of new taxes, those rich folks might stay away for good.
If he was smart, Cuomo would tell AOC to back off. But the socialist never listens to her own party.
- New York rich fled the state during the lockdown. Cuomo is begging them to come back.
- AOC is recommending a new tax on the rich, just as few want to return.
- Many rich New Yorkers left to other states and might not come back.
