Biden Agrees To Press Conference — With One Awkward Condition

Former Vice President Joe Biden emerged from his bunker to hold a scripted campaign event where even the names of reporters who posed softball questions came from a pre-approved list.

The presumptive Democratic presidential nominee did not venture far in his public appearance, speaking at a Wilmington community center in Delaware. After remarks filled with his usual gaffes, Biden turned to take questions and it appeared he had a list of names to choose from rather than calling on reporters randomly.

“I’m happy to take your questions. Let me get my list here,” Biden said as he wrapped up his prepared remarks and called on a reporter named Jessica.

“Joe Biden sounds a little rusty in understanding how press conferences work,” GOP Rapid Response Director Steve Guest tweeted along with a video clip of the moment.

Biden noted at one point that “I’m supposed to call on people,” as he referred to his list of names again.

And after weeks without a press conference of any kind, the questions Biden was asked were anything but riveting news.

The former vice president even got a round of applause as he left, which was highlighted by White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany in a tweet saying, “Must be nice!”

Biden did reveal during the event that he will announce his running mate “the first week in August.”

He called for “restoring peace” amid the ongoing unrest and rioting in cities like Portland, Oregon, and, naturally, blamed President Trump whom he also accused of an overreach of authority.

“He’s determined to stoke division and chaos,” Biden said. “This isn’t about law and order. It’s about a political strategy to revive a failing campaign.”

But Biden’s scripted public appearance was still filled with awkward moments and gaffes which have become expected from the 77-year-old Democrat. He kicked off the event by getting his location wrong, and then quickly laughed that he meant it as a joke.

“Good afternoon, everyone. Welcome to Kingswood Community Center,” he said from the William “Hicks” Anderson Center.

“Actually, that’s the one down I used to work. That was a joke,” he said. “You didn’t know where you were anyway. It’s great to be here.”

“If I’m elected and this passes I’m going to be good to go down as one of the most progressive presidents in American history,” he said at one point.

He also promised that his economic “pan” would “pay and support our caregivers who overwhelmingly, as I said, are women of color.”

Many other missteps from the event were highlighted on social media.

As speculation continues over Biden’s possible running mate, he was photographed holding handwritten notes and some talking points with the name of California’s Sen. Kamala Harris. Politico accidentally reported that Biden had chosen his former primary opponent as his running mate.

The text was later removed and a note was issued explaining the error.
