Democrat Congresswoman Val Demings (Fla.) defended the officer who shot and killed 16-year-old Ma’khia Bryant, saying that the officer followed his training.
During an interview with CBS Sunday morning, the Democrat from Florida said during her time as Orlando police chief she “prayed that her officers would follow their training.” Demmings also highlighted the sudden split-second choices these officers must make and noted that people today have the benefit of slow-motion, but these officers don’t have such luxury.

“But using the limited information I see in the video, it seems the officer used his training with the intention of preventing loss of life of the girl who was about to be attacked., Demings said.
The 16-year-old girl was fatally shot last week. The incident triggered another national uproar with many saying the officer should not have used deadly force.
However, body-cam footage was released afterword showing the girl lunging at two other people with a knife.
