White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki was annihilated by America’s largest police union, The Fraternal order of Police, in a statement on Monday after she mocked Americans concerned with the Biden administration’s response to crime.
Psaki made an appearance on a far-left podcast “Pod Save America” and mocked coverage discussing the consequences of Biden being soft on crime.
“And then on Fox is Jeanine Pirro talking about ‘soft-on-crime consequences.’ I mean, what does that even mean, right?” Psaki said. “So there’s an alternate universe on some coverage. What’s scary about it is a lot of people watch that.”
Patrick Yoes, National President of the Fraternal Order of Police, called out Psaki for “mocking and belittling Americans’ concerns about the nation’s skyrocketing crime rates and increased violence, which includes 28 law enforcement officers shot in the line of duty in January,” the organization said in a statement.
“I think it’s wrong—very wrong—for Ms. Psaki to suggest that violent crime in our country is of no concern or to just laugh it off,” Yoes said.
“She may feel safe in the White House, one of the most protected buildings in the United States, but not everyone feels safe in their workplace. The world we find ourselves in is dangerous and is becoming increasingly more so. Tens of thousands of people have been the victims of crime this month alone and some of them never made it back home.”
“There are many reasons for this escalating violence in many of our communities, and one of them is agenda-driven prosecutors who have gone rogue,” he continued.
“Many of them are refusing to bring charges against so-called ‘low-level’ or ‘nonviolent’ offenders. Under their leadership, which has been abhorrent in many cases, many violent offenders don’t stay in jail—they’re back on the streets and free to commit more crimes. That is the universe in which I, and millions of Americans, live in.”
Yoes highlighted just one recent example of a police officer who was murdered in the line of duty as an example of how the government is failing the people.
“Dominique Rivera, widow to the slain NYPD Officer Jason Rivera, said it best at her husband’s funeral: ‘This system continues to fail us. We are not safe anymore, not even members of the service,’” he said.
“These are stark words, but they are nonetheless true. Pretending violent crimes are part of some other reality will not help victims. Ms. Psaki owes them an apology.”
Psaki attempted to defend herself from criticism on Monday when asked about the matter during a press briefing, claiming that Fox News had “suggested this administration is soft on crime with no basis.”
“I would encourage anyone to listen to the full context of the interview and the conversation,” Psaki said. “What I was speaking to was a chyron on Fox News, since you raised it, which suggested this administration is soft on crime with no basis, given we have had many conversations and back and forth with you and your colleagues about the prioritization of the president to ensure that we are working as close partners with leaders, whether it is [New York City] Mayor [Eric] Adams, who he’s going to spend the day with on Thursday, or others in the country, and the facts speak for themselves. This is what I was talking about in the interview for the full context.”
Psaki went on to claim that the American Rescue Plan had included additional resources for police — blaming Republicans for opposing the massive spending package — and arguing falsely that Biden was pushing for greater increases in law enforcement funding that his predecessor, former President Donald Trump.
“And the other fact that is never talked about in these Fox packages, maybe even this one, is the fact that gun crime is a major driver of crime across the country, also a fact. So those are pieces I think in that moment I was speaking to and, again, we are about the facts here, and addressing crime is something that is a root of the president’s agenda,” Psaki concluded.
