Joe Biden is facing a mountain of criticism after a newly released email links the Democratic presidential nominee to an explosive corruption scandal.
The email reveals then-Vice President Biden met with a top executive at Burisma, the Ukrainian gas company that was paying his son tens of thousands of dollars every month, just before pressuring Ukrainian government officials to fire a prosecutor looking into the company.
The secret meeting is exposed in the email when Vadym Pozharskyi, an adviser to the board of Burisma, sent to Hunter Biden on April 17, 2015, thanking him for the introduction to his father Joe.
“Dear Hunter, thank you for inviting me to DC and giving an opportunity to meet your father and spent [sic] some time together. It’s realty [sic] an honor and pleasure,” the e-mail reads.
An earlier e-mail from May 2014 reportedly shows Pozharskyi asking Hunter for “advice on how you could use your influence” on the company’s behalf.
Less than a year after meeting the top ranking Burisma executive, Joe Biden pressured Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk into getting rid of Prosecutor General Viktor Shokin – who was planning to investigate Bursima – by threatening to withhold a $1 billion US loan guarantee.
He would later foolishly brag about this exchange which we now know could land the Biden family in a heap of trouble.
“I looked at them and said: I’m leaving in six hours. If the prosecutor is not fired, you’re not getting the money,” Biden bragged during a talk in 2018. “Well, son of a bitch. He got fired.”
Joe Biden has maintained for quite some time that he has never spoken with his son Hunter about his overseas business dealings despite having been caught golfing with one of Hunter’s business partners, Devon Archer, who also served on Burisma’s board.
Joe Biden even snapped on a Fox News Reporter in September of 2019 over the issue after being dubbed “Quid Pro Joe.”
“I have never spoken to my son about his overseas business dealings,” Biden claimed. “I know Trump deserves to be investigated. He is violating every basic norm of a president. You should be asking him why is he on the phone with a foreign leader, trying to intimidate a foreign leader. You should be looking at Trump.”
On Wednesday, following the discovery of these disturbing emails, Republican Sen. Ron Johnson said that the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee will take up an investigation into whether former Vice President Joe Biden and his son, Hunter Biden, wielded the elder Biden’s influence inappropriately in a business relationship between Hunter and Ukrainian gas company, Burisma.
Johnson told Fox News that the committee’s first order of business will be investigating and verifying the emails and that they have been in contact with individuals in the chain of possession.
“We regularly speak with individuals who email the committee’s whistleblower account to determine whether we can validate their claims,” Johnson said. “Although we consider those communications to be confidential, because the individual in this instance spoke with the media about his contact with the committee, we can confirm receipt of his email complaint, have been in contact with the whistleblower, and are in the process of validating the information he provided.”
The Senate Homeland Security Committee is already in the process of investigating Hunter Biden’s and Joe Biden’s complicated relationship with Ukraine and, last month, released an interim report detailing Hunter Biden’s foreign financial entanglements, including alleged business dealings with Ukrainian oil and gas executives.
