Democrat Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi (CA), warned American athletes going to the Genocide Games in Beijing that they could risk the anger of the “ruthless” Chinese government if they mention the human rights abuses.
Speaking at the Commission on China hearing, Pelosi said the U.S. has an “urgent moral responsibility to shine a big light” on China’s abuses.
“When the Winter Olympic Games start tomorrow in Beijing, the Chinese will once again try to distract the world from a decades-long campaign repression and abuse,” Pelosi stated. “But the U.S. and the international community understand the truth.”
“While we fully back our athletes, we cannot be silent about the human rights in China,” Pelosi said. “Over the next two weeks, it is our moral duty to shine a light on the human rights abuses being done by the host country.”
Pelosi also went after the International Olympics Committee for ignoring China’s human rights abuses.
Despite her apparent moral outrage, Nancy Pelosi also urged the U.S. athletes going to the games to compete instead of criticize the “ruthless” Chinese regime.
“I would say you are there to compete,” Pelosi stated. “Don’t risk attractive the wrath of the Chinese leaders because they are ruthless.”
“I know there is some temptation to speak while they are there; I respect that. But, I am also concerned about what the CCP government could do to their reputations or their families,” she said.
The hearing this Thursday was reportedly created “as a platform for Nancy Pelosi and several activists to highlight China’s human rights record, including news of forced labor and genocide against the Uyghur in the Xinjiang area as well as the suppression of democratic protests and religious repression of Buddhists,” as reported by Bloomberg News. Congressman Jim McGovern, the Dem in charge of the committee, said that “no athlete” would play their sport in a genocidal nation if “given a choice.”
“If given a choice, I think no athlete would wish to compete in a nation committing crimes against humanity. But they are forced to do given the feckless IOC and its large corporate sponsors,” he said.
