Republican New York Congresswoman Elise Stefanik called on Democratic NY Governor Andrew Cuomo to be arrested this Tuesday after an independent investigation discovered he had sexually harassed numerous women.
Stefanik, the third-ranking House GOP, released a comment shortly after New York AG Letitia James held a media conference about the investigation into Governor Cuomo and said that he broke both state and federal law. James said that after speaking to dozens of witnesses and looking at the evidence from numerous sources. Investigators found that Cuomo had subjected his employees to offensive and sexually charged remarks or unwanted touching.
“No one escapes the law and now justice must be served. Gov. Cuomo must resign and be arrested. President Biden must also promptly call for Cuomo’s resignation,” Stefanik said in a comment.
“In Dec., I was the first federal lawmaker to publicly demand an investigation into Governor Cuomo’s sexual harassment and assault. The independent investigation led by the AG office confirms Governor Cuomo sexually harassed and assaulted numerous women, including employees from his office and even state troopers,” Stefanik said.
“The liberal media and Dems smeared me and moved to protect Cuomo, a shameful time in NY history. Everyone, including his staff members should be held to account. These brave women deserve fast and definitive justice,” she said.
This is not the first time Stefanik has pushed for Cuomo to get prosecuted.
In Feb., Stefanik demanded that Cuomo be prosecuted after accusations surfaced that his team withheld the real number of covid deaths in nursing homes.
Stefanik’s comment said that Cuomo and his team should be prosecuted at both the state and federal levels. The comment came after reports that Cuomo hid the real amount of nursing home deaths from COVID-19 because of concerns that prosecutors would use these numbers against them.
Cuomo has not yet commented on the end result of this investigation.
This comes at a time when Democrats are fearing a heavy loss in the upcoming 2022 midterms across the nation as Republicans gain traction in all polls and Biden’s approval rating plummets. This scandal is just one more sign of corruption within the Democratic party that could tip the scales in these upcoming elections.
