Texas A.G. Ken Paxton has told local officials they have a deadline of 6 p.m. on Wednesday to remove mask mandates and operating restrictions before he takes legal actions against them.
“We have brought you to court before, under similar situations,” Paxton said in a message. “You lost. If you keep flouting the law in this way, we will take you to court yet again.”
“You and your authorities have until 6:00 p.m. to rescind any business restrictions or mask mandate, retract any connected public statements, and move yourselves into full compliance.”
Previously, Texas Governor Greg Abbott, a GOP member, announced he would be removing all covid restrictions and allowing Texas to open at full capacity.
“This should end,” he said during a conference. “Now is the time to open Texas 100%. Everyone who wants to work should be able to work. Every business that chooses to open should be allowed to.”
“I am giving an executive order that rescinds the previous executive orders,” he added. “Effective next Wednesday, all businesses are allowed to open fully.”
