Trump Starts Round Two In Battle Over Destructive Obama Policy

The media was abuzz yesterday after a 5-4 Supreme Court ruling on DACA.

While the left claimed the court “upheld” DACA, they actually ruled that the Trump administration failed to provide adequate justification for terminating the policy in 2017. One could definitely make the case the Supreme Court is agreeing with Obama’s executive action instead of going through Congressional approval.

President Trump clarified the meaning of the ruling, saying the court “punted” the issue further down the road. And he promised his administration would continue their fight:

President Trump on Friday signaled he plans to submit new paperwork to attempt to rescind the Deferred Actions for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program after the Supreme Court blocked his first attempt to do so.

Obama’s DACA policy was not backed by legislation. It was merely a memo directing the DHS to not deport 700,000 illegal aliens who came to the country as children. Given its nature, DACA recipients are neither citizens nor candidates for removal from the U.S.

Because of this, Donald Trump has fought to find a permanent fix to this situation. He has called on Congress, including Democrats who defend DACA, to come up with a solution. Time and again, Democrats on Capitol Hill have refused to come to the negotiation table.

Trump rescinded DACA in 2017 in order to compel Congress to act. The Supreme Court’s ruling yesterday was seen as a betrayal by many conservatives by John Roberts, a Bush-appointed justice. The court essentially said that the DHS had to follow Obama’s policy, regardless of DACA’s legality. Not even a sitting president can overrule it, to the outrage of millions of Americans.

But President Trump isn’t going to stop there. He has just announced they will be submitting new paperwork to try again.

He’s not letting this one go easy.

Key Takeaway:

  • Trump says the Supreme Court “punted” the DACA situation, requiring more information.
  • The president promised that his administration will submit “enhanced papers” to address the court’s ruling.
  • Trump has criticized Democrats for refusing to settle the DACA issue through legislation.
