GOP congressional members, their donors and staffers are being spied on and that is simply not tolerable in a free society. GOP Congress-member Kelly Armstrong (ND) went on the Tucker Carlson show last night to talk about the issue.
Politico also gives some more details about the specifics of what is happening, including real-world examples that reveal something like a third-world dictatorship.
“In another document looked at by POLITICO, one Capitol Police member noted that Farnam ordered analysts to do “background checks” on people whom lawmakers want to meet, including associates and donors. When staff were listed as going to these meetings, Capitol Police analysts also were asked to check the social media of these staffers.”
“Analysts were also ordered to probe the owners of buildings where Congress-members had their meetings.”
“Is there foreign ownership or interest in the event location?” the revised template said. “Are there any permanent missions or delegations in the surrounding area of the event?”
It’s important to see the game behind this. Probing for “foreign interests” in connection to meetings of congressional members is a pretty clear attempt to get additional “Russian collusion” support. Why else would that be relevant to the Capitol Police, who exists simply to protect the lives of lawmakers? Is there a physical threat or not? Because a donor having connections to another nation does not give a clear and present danger for the USCP.
Collecting data without an authorized reason is exactly what the USCP is doing. Saying that “we are attempting to keep people safe” is not a blanket reason for the federal government to do anything it wants. There are and have always been boundaries, and I believe these boundaries are being broken. Republicans need to take back the House, and when this happens, they must dismantle this Capitol Police incursion.
